The Role

We are seeking a dedicated Functional Skills English Tutor to join our team on-site at HMP Feltham. You will deliver higher‑level English tuition to small groups of prison‑based learners, supporting them to develop essential skills, knowledge, and positive behaviours that contribute to long‑term personal development and employability.

This role plays a vital part in supporting learners to achieve accredited outcomes while helping them build confidence, motivation, and aspirations for a positive future beyond custody.

As a Tutor, you will ensure high‑quality delivery through effective lesson planning, differentiated learning approaches, and ongoing learner support. You will also provide timely advice and guidance, ensuring training plans are relevant, engaging, and aligned with individual learner goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Functional Skills English sessions to small learner groups
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high‑quality lessons using a variety of teaching methods
  • Support learners to progress toward qualifications and personal development goals
  • Provide effective assessment, feedback, and guidance
  • Maintain accurate learner records and contribute to quality assurance processes
  • Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment within a custodial setting

What We’re Looking For

  • Level 3 English qualification (or equivalent)
  • Substantial subject knowledge and experience in English delivery
  • Experience of delivering training or education to adult learners
  • A teaching or assessing qualification (desirable, not essential)
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to engage and motivate diverse learners
  • Strong communication and organisational skills

If you do not currently hold a teaching or assessing qualification, full support will be provided to achieve the appropriate qualification during your probationary period.

Why Join Us?

By working in partnership with learners and specialist organisations, we help people move forward with confidence and purpose, while also influencing fairer recruitment practices and challenging barriers faced by those with convictions.

We are proud to foster an inclusive, values‑driven culture where staff are supported, developed, and recognised for the impact they make.
